Victoria Horner - creative handbags designer

Victoria Horner

Victoria Horner – fashionista and bag makerAfter graduating from college with degrees in commercial art and fashion illustration, I was ready to hit the big city and moved up to New York from Florida.  Starting at a job in the art department of a beauty trade magazine was great experience, and then I was thrilled for the opportunity to work for Andy Warhol, at his Interview Magazine, in the advertising department.  While there, I realized my love of fashion and design and created dresses for all my chic co-workers.  This led to a job in women’s design at J. Crew.  A few years later, there was an open call for new designers at the new Henri Bendel store on Fifth Avenue.  I presented 5 designs to them and they bought 10 of each!  This began my dress design business, which I passionately fueled for several years, until my move to Virginia, which is where I was born.  I’ve been living in Charlottesville since 1995, beautiful with its mountain views  and rural landscapes and a keen sense of creative energy.

Artisan made handbags and purses – by Victoria Horner. After my move I decided to venture into something a bit different, and started dabbling with handbag design.  Back then, there weren’t any patterns or readily available tutorials (no internet or you tube), so I basically taught myself.  I found a vintage fabric bag at a consignment shop and cut it apart to see how the pieces were formed and fit together.  Using my own fabrics, I played around with it, making several prototypes until something seemed to resemble a functional bag.  About 8 or 10 tries later, success!

So then I put a collection together and found a few local stores for consignment.  I participated in my first craft show in Richmond, Virginia in 1997, which is the year my business officially started. I’ve been doing this for 20 years!

Early on, I would travel back to NYC twice a year for fabrics and inspiration, and soon because of the Internet I realized I could be just as creative at home.  The fabric selection is probably my favorite step in the design process.  A good and bad thing, because I am now obsessed with anything resembling textiles, and have a separate room where I store everything.  Lately that room has been overflowing into my workspace.  I am very fortunate to have a finished basement with 2 rooms and several storage closets, so one is for sewing and production, the other is for fabric and supplies.  It’s difficult for me to keep it all neat and orderly, so I proudly say that I work in organized chaos.  Even better, since it’s the basement, I can come back upstairs and shut the door to my mess!

Sewn with love artisan bags by Victoria Horner – bagslife friends. Most of my sales these days are from art and craft shows, or trunk shows that I travel to near and far, in addition to a boutique or gallery in the vicinity.  I also have a couple of websites, so that’s another outlet.  Etsy has been a great arena for me, and has given my bags international exposure, having received sales from Japan, Australia, Spain and others.

It has been an interesting adventure so far, mostly good.  I am somewhat surprised that I have kept up with it for so long, with wanting to quit on several occasions, but still continuing to strive ahead.  My body speaks to me from time to time, as my eyesight is definitely affected, and aches and pains remind me to take more breaks and stretch.  But even after twenty years, I plan to continue designing and creating for as long as I am able!

Teo and Lida a combination of artists both at work and in life.

Teo Vergidis bags designer Teo,

A self made and multifaceted artisan with talent and experience in handicrafts since childhood. That talent was nurtured by his family, a family of jewel makers. He is handy with many different materials such as wood, metal, stone and fabric. He recently discovered leather as a mean of expressing his artistic restlessness.

His creations combine all his knowledge with emphasis on detail and the handmade process.

Lida

Lida Mamouna bags designerLida,

Lida is Educated on Fashion Design in Greece and in France. Her education, her strong inclination to create out of natural materials and her organized personality create an excellent combination of skills for a highly creative outcome.

It should be also pointed out that Lida has 10 years experience in the fields of fashion photography and fashion magazines, which, significantly supports our work.

At the end of 2014 Lida made our first leather items with just 2 designs. During 2015 I joined her and our designs grew to 12 and now exceed 50.

There is no right day or time to envision a new design. Most of the times new ideas just pop up in your mind while you look at an object or touching a new material.

For me the best moment in this job is when you give life to your envisions.

Creativity is one of the main forces that makes the world go round.

Traci Myers | Illinois USA

Tmyers - creator of gypsy boho colorful artbags.

Traci MyersTraci - creator of T. Myers bagsAbout Me

Hi there, I am Traci Myers, creator of T. Myers bags.

Since childhood, I have had a passion for design, and creating beautiful items from unusual, discarded, and just plain unpredictable items and materials.

For over a decade, I’ve created decorative items for people’s homes and interiors. Practically being obsessed with fabrics and textiles, I created over a hundred rooms of custom window treatments, duvets covers, pillows, and so much more! I had two of my own homes featured on a local news entertainment program, highlighting my decorating ideas. I then became a regular on the set of the program, giving tutorials on up-cycled, and do-it-yourself projects.

I have had five shops (booth spaces), where I created and sold many unusual, up-cycled, and re-purposed items. I loved these shops and poured my heart and soul into finding, and creating , one of a kind, beautiful items to offer customers.

Among the items I created for my shops, were one of a kind, up-cycled handbags. They sold well, so I decided I would try my hand at the worldwide web, and started putting my bags on Ebay. They were a hit and now, making purses is my focus and my absolute passion.

I offer statement, one of a kind bags, that are trendy, luxurious, playful, whimsical, pieces of wearable art.

Please take a look at my gallery (links below), if you see a purse you like, ask me about a custom order.

Majority of materials used to make my bags are up-cycled from my long time collection of unique textiles, vintage linens, trims, and found treasures. This makes them earth friendly, and one of a kind. I may make similar bags, but no two bags are ever exactly the same.

HAND made BAGS | Estonia

Stella Laur - bags designers

logo HandmadeBags Stella Laur | bagslifaStella Laur - handmadebags - bags life friendsHi, I’m Stella and I have an obsession about handbags. I buy them and I make them.

Handcrafts have been my passion since I can remember. I like to knit, crochet, felt and sew and there have been times I really enjoyed drawing, leatherworks and pottery. But surprisingly I didn’t go to study art or crafts, I chose business management and after graduations

I didn’t return to my passion right away. It was after the birth of my first child when I decided to look for a different path. So one thing lead to another and at the moment I have handcraft shop in a lovely small town called Pärnu, it’s in Estonia 🙂 and I have my studio inside the shop so I can be creative when times aren’t so busy.

For the last 5 or 6 years I have focused on making handbags. I have knitted, crochet and felted bags but at the moment I sew them. I don’t use any new leather to make my bags for many reasons, instead I use thick linen. For new designs I get inspiration from my own needs, new cool fabrics, travelling, other people and different cultures.

At the moment I sell them on my own, on my shop or different design markets in Estonia.
I opened my Etsy shop this year so check it out. You can also follow me on Facebook and Instagram.

Daiktu Istorijos | Lithuania

Ruta - Dailtu Istorijos - bags designer

About “DI Stories”

“Daiktu Istorijos” is a leather bags and accessories brand found by me, Ruta. It all started as a blog about custom-made handbags that I made as a hobby. Step by step the brand and the team grew, and we opened the website and e-shop in 2014.

“Daiktu Istorijos” should be translated as “Stories of things”. The story of each bag starts in my workshop and is carried on by the one who wears it. Therefore my Etsy shop is named “DIStories”.
I make handbags that are both timeless and functional, yet stylish and fashionable. The handbags come in different colours and styles, being customized and unique.
I seek for the highest quality, that’s why I love to use leather with natural textures, like top grain, often aniline leather. My customers discover the beauty of natural leather, which ages beautifully.
**

About me

Rūta Sičiūnaitė-daiktu-istorijos-bagslifeIt all started when I was just a child.
Both my great-grandfather and my grandmother were professional tailors, and my mother is still working in fashion manufacturing industry, therefore we always had a sewing machine and plenty of magical materials at home that enchanted me from my childhood.
I started sewing clothes for my dolls – dresses for tea parties or luxurious feasts in the castles. Later on, I and my cousins refashioned the clothes of our mothers and grandmothers and ran fashion shows in an old farmstead attic. It was a childhood full of magic where the dreams could bring you on a fashion podium of any time.

Having finished an art school I started my “normal” career, but after my work, when I came home, I got absorbed in sewing which took more and more of my leisure time.
I was fifteen when I tailored my first bag. It was made of textile. Later on, I started experimenting with leather. And so, I have been sewing bags for about sixteen years.

Freedom to create, the process of production when your vision becomes the real thing and people enjoying the final result, when they come back and buy more than one or two bags these are the things that make me happy.
Inspiration is not only being interested in fashion and its history, it means communication with people, their joy of everyday life, all that help create magic histories together.

About us

Bags Life creators Natasha & Ryh We are bags designers & manufacturers.
Here’s our ETSY shop: BagsLifeStudio.

We would like the BAGS.life brand to be associated with the feeling of freedom. It is just the aspiration for freedom what caused us to create the company. We both left our former professions – a job in an educational corporation and a position of a medical manager, and dedicated ourselves to designing. We easily forgot what we were “expected to do” and we solely do what we want to.

The source and the light motive of all our creations are the new-boho collages which we make. Collages are made up of different elements, also three-dimensional, most of which are waste materials.

Bagslife designers use waste materials to create boho-collages

Thats why our creations belong to the ‘upcycled art’ trend.

BAGSlife handmade studio

We just push a new life into the left, forgotten and unwanted things.

Each of our bags is created for an independent woman whose taste is far from mediocre.

We want the BAGS.life products to be for you the same they are for us – a liberating from everything that disturbs, limits and hinders. Let them be the symbol of independence, let them encourage you and remind you to always decide for yourself.

Free yourself!

Be yourself!

Today we have more than 100 designs and we are still making new ones – avoiding routine. We know it is impractical, but we can’t resist the desire to create.
